The misconception that lingers\u00a0<\/p>\n
For\u00a0Nelsen, one of the most persistent barriers is the framing of HR itself. Too many executives, she\u00a0says, still associate the CHRO with administrative functions \u2014 payroll, compliance, performance reviews \u2014 rather than as a driver of business outcomes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA truly strategic CHRO is deeply involved in driving culture, aligning talent with business goals, and helping to shape long-term strategy, especially in today’s fast-changing market,\u201d\u00a0she says.\u00a0\u201cI think a critical part of the HR role is understanding and getting ahead of the rapid pace of change\u00a0and what we can do to support the business\u00a0and its operations.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Christine Barwell, Senior Vice-President of Human Resources at\u00a0Wesdome\u00a0Gold Mines, echoes\u00a0the sentiment.\u00a0\u201cThere’s an element of being there at the table and then there’s an element of how you’re contributing, so\u00a0I’m quite surprised there’s that gap,\u201d she says.\u00a0\u201cI see the people side of the business as quite\u00a0significant\u00a0and you absolutely have to be strategic when it comes to the people side of the business.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
