Investigators have charged an Ontario man with impaired driving offences after calling police following a crash in Ottawa.<\/p>\n
The incident started as a request for assistance to the OPP around 9:30 p.m. on April 29 after a driver broke down on the side of Highway 417 near Vanier, approximately 7 kilometres east of Ottawa.<\/p>\n
Police say the male driver requested police attend for traffic control until a tow truck arrived. But investigators say the same driver had previously struck a sign in a hit-and-run crash in Ottawa.<\/p>\n
Officers suspected the driver was impaired, and used a roadside screening device before taking the man for further screening.<\/p>\n
The OPP says the 59-year-old male driver from Kemptville has been charged with operation while impaired \u2013 alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired \u2013 blood alcohol content 80 plus.<\/p>\n
The accused had his licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance in Ottawa at a later date.<\/p>\n
