{"id":36875,"date":"2026-05-08T08:53:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T08:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/36875\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T08:53:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T08:53:37","slug":"it-will-be-a-total-nightmare-getting-around-toronto-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/36875\/","title":{"rendered":"It will be a total nightmare getting around Toronto this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pack your patience if you&#8217;re planning on going out this weekend, as a slew of subway, highway, and road closures threaten to turn travel across Toronto into a total nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you have plans to catch a baseball game at Rogers Centre, a soccer game at BMO Field, a concert at Scotiabank Arena, or a\u00a0spring market\u00a0downtown, travel times may take much longer than normal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Major closures will shut down portions of the TTC&#8217;s Line 2, the Don Valley Parkway, while several events and even a marathon will put\u00a0strain on all forms of transportation.<\/p>\n<p>From Friday, May 8, at 11 p.m. until Monday, May 11, at 5 a.m., the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2026\/05\/toronto-10k-shut-down-major-roads-weekend\/\" style=\"font-family: merriweatherregular, Georgia, serif; font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Don Valley Parkway (DVP) will be closed<\/a>\u00a0from Highway 401 to the Jarvis Street ramp on the Gardiner Expressway.\u00a0This upcoming closure is required for general maintenance and construction work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A hefty portion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2026\/05\/ttc-shut-down-subway-weekend-may-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Line 2 Bloor-Danforth will be shut down<\/a> this weekend as well. Subway service between Kipling to Jane stations will be replaced by shuttle buses starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, May 8 to Saturday, May 9, due to planned signal work.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2026\/05\/toronto-10k-shut-down-major-roads-weekend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sporting Life 10K<\/a> is also taking place this weekend and will affect traffic across a wide stretch of town, as six major roads will be closed to accommodate\u00a0the marathon on Sunday, May 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bayview Avenue from Front Street to Mill St. and Mill St. from Tannery Rd. to Bayview Ave. will be shut down one day earlier, beginning Saturday, May 9 at 7 a.m. until Sunday, May 10 at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, portions of Yonge St., Front. St., Cherry St. and Eastern Ave. will be closed the day of the marathon to accommodate the 24,000 participants in the annual run.<\/p>\n<p>Expect heavy crowds and congestion at Union and Exhibition GO stations starting Friday, May 8, due to Blue Jays and TFC games.
