{"id":37314,"date":"2026-05-08T16:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T16:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/37314\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T16:20:09","slug":"canada-to-create-ai-and-labour-advisory-council-solomon-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/37314\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada to create AI and Labour Advisory Council, Solomon says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Advisory group stems from a desire to maintain regular contact with labour leaders following initial meetings.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s upcoming AI strategy will consider the perspective of workers through a yet-to-be-formed AI and Labour Advisory Council, according to AI Minister Evan Solomon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The council stems from a desire to maintain regular contact with labour leaders following initial meetings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/evan-solomon-31906a8b_today-with-hon-john-z-we-brought-together-activity-7455743409501282305-8rUX?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAACQRsLYBYtACiht1SZCp1z_yZhpuZgCPdLk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">last week<\/a>, Solomon told BetaKit in an interview at Chips North on Tuesday. Solomon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewirereport.ca\/2026\/05\/07\/solomon-teases-new-labour-advisory-group-that-will-inform-ai-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">acknowledged these plans again<\/a> at the Public Policy Forum in Toronto on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of [the meeting] was to show labour leaders that we are developing our strategy with labour in mind,\u201d Solomon told BetaKit. \u201cBecause workers are at the heart of this, jobs are at the heart of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI for all has to walk the walk. I think that\u2019s what we\u2019re getting right, and you\u2019ll see that showing up in the strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Solomon\u2019s office later told BetaKit in an email that the goal of the council is to ensure workers have a direct voice in shaping how AI is governed and deployed across the economy, as well as\u00a0 to provide ongoing advice about AI\u2019s labour market impacts, inform governance measures that affect workers, and serve as a \u201cstanding consultation mechanism between labour and the AI ministry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The council\u2019s membership is still being finalized, according to Solomon\u2019s office, with more details coming as part of the AI Strategy\u2019s broader rollout. Solomon is in charge of delivering the <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/ottawa-releases-findings-from-ai-task-force-and-public-consultation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">strategy<\/a>, which was initially promised to <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/canada-will-update-ai-strategy-a-year-ahead-of-schedule-evan-solomon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">drop before the end of 2025<\/a> but has been repeatedly delayed. The six \u201cpillars\u201d of the strategy were teased in last week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/canadian-spring-economic-update-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">Spring Economic Update<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/canadian-spring-economic-update-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">AI strategy pillars, new SMB procurement program revealed in Canada\u2019s Spring Economic Update<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Solomon has met with over a dozen labour unions, including the Canadian Labour Congress, Unifor, Teamsters Canada, UFCW Canada, and CUPE.
