{"id":38633,"date":"2026-05-09T17:01:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T17:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/38633\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T17:01:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T17:01:06","slug":"grizzly-bear-footage-from-canada-not-ai-photographer-assures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/38633\/","title":{"rendered":"Grizzly bear footage from Canada not AI, photographer assures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 9, 2026, 12:21 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Footage showing a &#8220;large grizzly bear family&#8221; walking alongside a highway in the Canadian Rockies is genuine, according to the photographer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The footage, posted Friday by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYGGPqlP7-w\/\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">City of Calgary Culture<\/a> and shared below, also shows one of three cubs walking upright on its hind legs, adding a surreal quality.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:396px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/90009623007-grizzlies-1.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grizzly bear family on Alberta highway.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">We reached out to the photographer, Rocco Rennie, after noting that several comments were from followers who questioned the authenticity of his footage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/outdoors\/2026\/05\/08\/grizzly-bear-attacks-mar-spring-openers-yellowstone-glacier-national-parks\/89995343007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RELATED: Grizzly bear attacks at Yellowstone, Glacier, put hiker safety in spotlight<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cLooks like AI, the shadows aren&#8217;t quite right,\u201d reads a top comment. \u201cAlso look at where their paws make contact with the asphalt, they don&#8217;t quite touch the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The top comment reads: &#8220;Anyone else tired of looking at videos trying to decide if it\u2019s AI?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rennie also commented, stating: &#8220;It\u2019s real. I took the video.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gnt_em_ig_bl\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYGGPqlP7-w\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" aria-label=\"view Instagram post: \"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rennie told FTW Outdoors that he encountered the bears while driving to a hiking trail in Kananaskis Country in Alberta, west of Calgary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe were on our way to a hike in Kananaskis around 8 a.m. and we saw them so I pulled over and took the video,\u201d Rennie explained. \u201cAnd after our hike we saw the same family of bears being moved by a parks truck. I\u2019m assuming they didn\u2019t want them there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:396px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/90009655007-grizzly-bears-2.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grizzly bear family followed by ranger.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rennie texted me two additional clips of footage captured through his windshield. One shows the bears milling on the side of the road and the other shows them running in front of a ranger truck with lights flashing. (See screen shot above.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">In the second clip, as in the clip shared by City of Calgary Culture, a yellow research tag is visible in momma bear\u2019s left ear. So she\u2019s a known bear with older cubs, and they\u2019ve probably been encountered several times in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Also, it&#8217;s worth noting that it&#8217;s not uncommon for bears to stand on their hind legs for short periods.
