The City of Calgary is proud to announce the launch of Sport Hub, a new\u00a0community-centered\u00a0program that brings\u00a0fun,\u00a0inclusive\u00a0and\u00a0coach-led\u00a0sport\u00a0lessons\u00a0directly to schools and communities for\u00a0kids\u00a0and teens aged 5\u00a0to\u00a018.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sport Hub\u00a0is designed to reduce common barriers to\u00a0sport\u00a0participation, including cost, equipment,\u00a0transportation\u00a0and limited opportunities to try\u00a0different\u00a0activities.\u00a0Working alongside\u00a0sport organizations,\u00a0schools\u00a0boards, community\u00a0collaborators\u00a0and funders such as United Way of Calgary and Area\u00a0and Jumpstart,\u00a0the program delivers\u00a0high-quality\u00a0sport lessons where kids\u00a0and\u00a0teens already learn and play\u00a0– at school and in their neighbourhood.\u00a0Recreation\u00a0Fee\u00a0Assistance\u00a0for community lessons\u00a0is\u00a0available through\u00a0The City\u2019s Fair Entry\u00a0program, helping\u00a0to\u00a0reduce\u00a0cost\u00a0as\u00a0a barrier to participation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What makes Sport Hub unique is its collaborative delivery model. The\u00a0City\u00a0works closely with sport organizations\u00a0to\u00a0provide\u00a0lessons in the sports they specialize in. By bringing coaching\u00a0expertise\u00a0and\u00a0sports\u00a0equipment into community and school settings, the program helps kids and teens build skills,\u00a0confidence\u00a0and a lifelong connection to sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSport Hub is a key part of how we\u2019re delivering on\u00a0GamePLAN,\u00a0The\u00a0City\u2019s\u00a0long\u2011term\u00a0recreation strategy,\u201d said\u00a0Director of Recreation & Social Programs,\u00a0Ian Fleming. \u201cBy collaborating with schools, sport organizations and community groups, we\u2019re expanding access to quality sport experiences, reducing barriers and supporting the physical, social and emotional\u00a0well\u2011being\u00a0of young Calgarians.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Through United Way of Calgary and Area\u2019s Planet Youth initiative, which focuses on prevention and youth well-being, teen sport lessons in select communities are offered at no cost, helping remove barriers and expand access during a critical stage of development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2026, Sport Hub aims to reach more than\u00a045 Calgary communities and\u00a090\u00a0schools, expanding opportunities for kids and teens to\u00a0participate\u00a0in structured, inclusive sport lessons that support physical literacy,\u00a0teamwork\u00a0and personal growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n
