A 16-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder after a fight outside a Tim Hortons in north Oshawa Saturday night left a 23-year-old man dead.<\/p>\n
Durham Regional Police responded to an armed person call at Simcoe Street and Winchester Road in the city\u2019s north end just after 8 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
Officers arrived on scene and located the victim suffering from \u201ctraumatic\u201d injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The teenage suspect, a Brampton resident, surrendered himself to homicide investigators in Oshawa on Monday and was taken into custody and charged with murder.<\/p>\n
He was held for a bail hearing.<\/p>\n
Police said Sunday the victim was killed after a fight between two groups outside the coffee shop.<\/p>\n
The events leading to Durham\u2019s third homicide of 2026 unfolded a short time earlier when two groups of males \u201cengaged in a physical altercation outside of the Tim Hortons,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring that altercation, the victim suffered fatal injuries. The suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Hortons,\u201d police said in a news release.<\/p>\n
An extensive search, including by the force\u2019s helicopter and K9 unit, turned up no sign of the culprits.<\/p>\n
This is believed to be an isolated incident, with no threat to public safety, police added.<\/p>\n
