Police investigating homicide in Oshawa Increased police presence over weekend<\/p>\nA 16-year-old boy from Brampton has been charged with murder after a 23-year-old man was killed in a fight outside a coffee shop in Oshawa over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The incident happened on Saturday near Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East.<\/p>\n
Durham Regional Police Service say at around 8:10 p.m. officers responded to a call for an armed person in that area. <\/p>\n
There, they found a 23-year-old man with \u201ctraumatic injuries.\u201d He was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.<\/p>\n
The victim, whose name has not been released, is Durham Region\u2019s third homicide victim of 2026.<\/p>\n
Man killed during \u2018physical altercation\u2019: police <\/p>\n
Investigators say two groups of males got into a \u201cphysical altercation\u201d outside a Tim Hortons at 2700 Simcoe St. N. <\/p>\n
\u201cDuring that altercation, the victim suffered fatal injuries. The suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Horton\u2019s,\u201d police said. <\/p>\n
Durham police said this incident is \u201cisolated,\u201d adding that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.<\/p>\n

There was an increased police presence in that area over the weekend as an extensive search involving a helicopter and the K9 Unit took place. Police, however, did not make any arrests at that time.<\/p>\n
On Monday, a 16-year-old boy from Brampton turned himself in to police in Oshawa. He was taken into custody without incident, investigators say. <\/p>\n
The youth, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with second-degree murder. He was held for a bail hearing.<\/p>\n
Investigation continues<\/p>\n
This investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in that area on May 9 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and has cell phone, dashcam, surveillance footage, or any other information about this incident to contact Det.
