{"id":43477,"date":"2026-05-13T14:16:59","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/43477\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T14:16:59","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:16:59","slug":"bricault-design-references-mountains-for-whistler-hideaway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/43477\/","title":{"rendered":"Bricault Design references mountains for Whistler Hideaway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canadian studio Bricault Design has created a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/cabins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cabin<\/a>\u00a0informed by adjacent mountain peaks, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/green-roofs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">green roofs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/slate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">slate<\/a> cladding, to age in tandem with its wooded site in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/british-columbia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">British Columbia<\/a>, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Whistler Hideaway, the 1,268-square-foot (118-square-metre) residence balances the relationship between the sanctuary of the interior and the rugged landscape around the cabin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bricault.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bricault Design<\/a>, a Vancouver-based practice, prioritised pedestrian and vehicular approaches that allowed residents and visitors to make the structure appear embedded in the landscape.\u00a0 The siting also preserved existing wildlife corridors for local fauna.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2325498 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/whistler-hideaway-bricault-design-vancouver-cabin_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Whistler Hideaway cabin in Vancouver by Bricault Design\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Bricault Design topped the Whistler Hideaway cabin with green roofs<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted the architecture to share a language with the surrounding peaks, resulting in an angular, rugged form reminiscent of the steep shale slopes found above the tree line,&#8221; Marc Bricault told Dezeen, explaining that the self-contained cabin nestles into the property without interrupting the view corridor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Complemented by coastal Douglas fir and terraced green roofs, the design anchors itself in the forest while echoing the beauty of the alpine meadows.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On the exterior, charcoal slate tile, copper details and Douglas fir soffits will patina over time to further blend the cabin into the landscape. the team said. &#8220;This allowed us to maintain a compact footprint that feels spacious without imposing an outsized presence on the delicate mountain site.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the cabin, Bricault arranged a series of intentional frames that balance views out to the landscape and privacy from neighbouring properties.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2325500 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/whistler-hideaway-bricault-design-vancouver-cabin_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x652.jpg\" alt=\"Timber-clad kitchen in a home in Vancouver\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1810\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Built-in storage was designed for clutter-free interiors<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For example, the living room is anchored by a deep, cantilevered window seat that projects the viewer out into the forest, while the bedroom suite is elevated into the tree canopy to create a treehouse-like experience,&#8221; the studio said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to triple-glazed windows and locally sourced, renewable materials, the high-performance envelope is topped with terraced green roofs that support drought-resistant plant species with a high-efficiency subsurface irrigation system.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2325506 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/whistler-hideaway-bricault-design-vancouver-cabin_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x569.jpg\" alt=\"Bedroom with a window overlooking treetops\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1578\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Windows in the bedroom overlook the treetops<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What makes this project special is the &#8216;small house, big craft&#8217;
