A woman in her 90s has died after she was allegedly assaulted by a fellow resident at a care home which offers dementia care.<\/p>\n
The alleged attack happened at The Windmill Care Home in Rollesby, near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.<\/p>\n
Police were called to the home on Main Road at 19:42 BST on 13 April and the victim was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston in a life-threatening condition, but died six days later.<\/p>\n
A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.<\/p>\n
Management at the care home have declined to comment.<\/p>\n
Norfolk Police said both the victim and the suspect were residents at the care home.<\/p>\n
A spokeswoman added: “An investigation has been launched following an assault at a residential care home.<\/p>\n
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to the victim’s death.”<\/p>\n
Regulatory action<\/p>\n
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said it had conducted a full inspection of the service following the incident, and that it was in “close contact” with police.<\/p>\n
“We have sought immediate assurances from the home to ensure people are safe,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
“CQC has begun the process of taking regulatory action to address the concerns.”<\/p>\n
The Windmill home describes itself as “family-run” and has been operating since 1987, caring for up to 35 residents.<\/p>\n
