Four researchers from the UBC Faculty of Medicine are among the new and renewed Canada Research Chairs recently announced<\/a> by the Government of Canada.<\/p>\n

The Chairs are advancing research in areas critical to the health of people across Canada and around the world, including spinal cord injury and rehabilitation, next-generation immunotherapies, child and youth mental health, and precision medicine for children.<\/p>\n

The Canada Research Chairs Program<\/a> enables Canadian universities to attract and retain world-class researchers who advance new knowledge and discoveries, strengthen Canada\u2019s international competitiveness and help train the next generation of highly skilled people.<\/p>\n

In total, 14 UBC researchers<\/a> were announced as new and renewed Canada Research Chairs, representing an investment of $10.7 million.<\/p>\n

Karim Bardeesy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, shared the announcement on behalf of the Honourable M\u00e9lanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.<\/p>\n

The appointments are part of the Government of Canada\u2019s investment of more than $168 million in Canada\u2019s research ecosystem, which also includes additional support for UBC Medicine researchers through the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) \u2013 Exploration competition. <\/p>\n
