Toronto residents are being warned of heavy rains and a risk of thunderstorms on Tuesday, according to Environment Canada.<\/p>\n
The national weather agency issued a special weather statement for up to 20 millimetres of rain Tuesday morning, with higher amounts possible with thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
The statement also extended to other parts of the Greater Toronto Area, including Markham, Scarborough, Brampton and Caledon.<\/p>\n
“The saturated ground has reduced ability to absorb further rainfall,” said Environment Canada. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.”<\/p>\n
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) extended a flood outlook Monday afternoon, warning that flooding may be possible with widespread rain in a short amount of time.<\/p>\n
Rivers could rise about their normal levels with the heavy precipitation, it said, making shorelines and streams in the area dangerous due to faster flowing water.<\/p>\n
The TRCA warned commuters to avoid going through pools of floodwater that may be deeper or faster flowing that it appears.<\/p>\n
“Keep children and pets away from fast moving water and slippery or unstable riverbanks,” said the conservation agency.<\/p>\n
Despite the wet weather, Toronto is looking to have a warm Tuesday with a high of 21 C and evening low of 12 C. Winds up to 40 kilometres per hour are also expected throughout the day.<\/p>\n
While a break from the rain is expected after the morning, another bout of heavy rain is forecasted for the next day.<\/p>\n
