The Canada Research Chair program helps the University of Victoria attract and\u00a0retain\u00a0the best\u00a0global\u00a0scholars.\u00a0These\u00a0chairholders\u00a0are\u00a0creating a better world\u00a0through research and community engagement that will advance language education, how\u00a0society implements laws, and energy production.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

Karim Bardeesy, parliamentary\u00a0secretary to the minister of industry, announced\u00a0the recipients as part of the Canada Research Chairs program, which is administered by\u00a0the federal government\u2019s\u00a0Tri-agency Institutional Programs\u00a0Secretariat.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Heidi\u202fKiiwetinepinesiik\u202fStark\u202fhas been awarded a Tier I CRC in\u202fThe Embodied Politics of Indigenous Law. Her\u202fresearch program aims to revitalize Anishinaabe legal traditions, emphasizing generative, community-based governance and relational accountability. The project integrates embodied practices such as storytelling, beadwork,\u202fquilting\u202fand land-based teachings for a more holistic understanding of Indigenous governance.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bryson\u202fRobertson\u202fhas been awarded a\u202fTier I\u202fCRC in Marine Renewable Energy. His research will\u202fdrive\u202fthe innovation needed for communities and technology developers to integrate culturally relevant and economically tailored energy solutions, and\u202fto\u202fcatalyze global energy system change in a\u202fshifting\u202fworld dynamic.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
chuutsqa\u202fLayla Rorick\u202fis named a Tier II CRC in\u202fIndigenous Language Revitalization, Reclamation and Maintenance.\u202fA Hesquiaht researcher and educator, she will support new\u00a0language teachers through immersive land-based mentorship; co-develop digital tools to help speakers create tailored language resources; and mobilize ancestral knowledge through First Nation-governed digital archives.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
Aloysius\u202fKahindi\u2019s Tier II CRC in\u202fInternational Sustainable Development, Inequality and Social Innovation\u202fhas been renewed for a second five-year term.\u202fHe will continue to address the social and economic impacts\u202fin Africa\u202fof multinational enterprises, multilateral organizations such as NGOs as well as micro-foundations and grassroots digital entrepreneurship.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
These research projects\u202fadvance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals\u202f4\u00a0(quality education); 7\u00a0(affordable and clean energy); 13\u00a0(climate action); 16\u00a0(peace,\u202fjustice\u202fand strong institutions); and 17\u00a0(partnerships for the\u00a0goals).<\/p>\n
