{"id":44341,"date":"2026-05-14T02:14:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T02:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/44341\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T02:14:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T02:14:39","slug":"uvic-has-three-new-canada-research-chairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/44341\/","title":{"rendered":"UVic has three new Canada Research Chairs\u202f"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three\u202fnew Canada Research Chairs (CRCs)\u202fand one renewal will\u202fadvance\u202fsocial justice, Indigenous resurgence and\u202frenewable\u202fenergy\u202fresearch at the University of Victoria (UVic).\u202fThe UVic leaders were named on\u202fWednesday\u202fas part of a federal\u202fgovernment announcement in research excellence.\u202f<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canada Research Chair program helps the University of Victoria attract and\u00a0retain\u00a0the best\u00a0global\u00a0scholars.\u00a0These\u00a0chairholders\u00a0are\u00a0creating a better world\u00a0through research and community engagement that will advance language education, how\u00a0society implements laws, and energy production.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014\u202fLisa Kalynchuk, UVic vice-president research and innovation<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karim Bardeesy, parliamentary\u00a0secretary to the minister of industry, announced\u00a0the recipients as part of the Canada Research Chairs program, which is administered by\u00a0the federal government\u2019s\u00a0Tri-agency Institutional Programs\u00a0Secretariat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heidi\u202fKiiwetinepinesiik\u202fStark\u202fhas been awarded a Tier I CRC in\u202fThe Embodied Politics of Indigenous Law. Her\u202fresearch program aims to revitalize Anishinaabe legal traditions, emphasizing generative, community-based governance and relational accountability. The project integrates embodied practices such as storytelling, beadwork,\u202fquilting\u202fand land-based teachings for a more holistic understanding of Indigenous governance.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bryson\u202fRobertson\u202fhas been awarded a\u202fTier I\u202fCRC in Marine Renewable Energy.
