After Toronto’s newest library branch, Junction Triangle, abruptly shut down for four months, the doors have officially reopened.<\/p>\n

The Junction Triangle branch of the Toronto Public Library (TPL) had only been open for six months when it\u00a0surprised \u2014 and frustrated \u2014\u00a0the community\u00a0by announcing on its website that it was “closed until further notice due to a facility concern.”<\/p>\n

On Jan. 28, a TPL spokesperson told blogTO the closure was caused by flooding<\/a> related to an HVAC system failure. They also said the branch would “remain closed for at least two weeks”\u00a0while repairs were completed.<\/p>\n

But weeks quickly turned into months, forcing local bibliophiles to travel to other distant branches while the trendy, new\u00a010,000-square-foot library\u00a0remained shuttered.<\/p>\n

What many residents assumed would be a short-term closure ultimately left the branch, located at the corner of Campbell Ave. and Dupont St,\u00a0closed for four\u00a0months. And the prolonged closure renewed frustration among\u00a0community advocates who spent years pushing for the new branch to be built.<\/p>\n

Kevin Putnam of the Junction Triangle Library Expansion Committee said the residents’\u00a0group that helped raise $4.5 million for the project \u2014 to expand and relocate the much smaller Perth Dupont branch, which closed June 14, 2025 \u2014\u00a0plans to ask the TPL\u00a0Board to launch an independent review into the library’s development and construction process.<\/p>\n

According to Putnam, the project faced a series of unexplained delays that stretched construction nearly two years beyond the original timeline.
