{"id":52995,"date":"2026-05-20T13:52:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T13:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/52995\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T13:52:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T13:52:32","slug":"here-are-the-2026-ottawa-race-weekend-road-closures-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/52995\/","title":{"rendered":"Here are the 2026 Ottawa Race Weekend road closures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Several major Ottawa roads will be closed this weekend to make way for Ottawa Race Weekend participants, as well as the 40th edition of the Great Glebe Garage Sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The marathon typically sees over 30,000 runners and walkers participating over Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Downtown road closures begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m.\u00a0on\u00a0Laurier\u00a0Avenue between\u00a0Metcalfe and Nicholas streets, and\u00a0Elgin Street northbound between Lisgar and Slater streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Saturday&#8217;s closures mostly affect\u00a0Centretown and extend south along the Rideau Canal to Dows Lake. Other\u00a0closures include parts of Elgin, O&#8217;Connor and Wellington streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Some closures will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A map of the routes for the kids, 2K, 5K and 10K races on Saturday. At some points during the day, road closures extend beyond the routes.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"514\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6ce2f260a328876e86d87a7ce8cb387c.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sunday&#8217;s closures start earlier with some streets around Ottawa city hall shutting down to traffic starting at 5 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">By 9 a.m. the closures will stretch as far as Island Park Drive, Manor Park and Hog&#8217;s Back Park\u00a0before receding to roads along the\u00a0Rideau Canal by 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Most closures on Sunday will be lifted by 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A full list of road closures over the weekend is available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.runottawa.ca\/torw\/plan\/road-closures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Ottawa Race Weekend website;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Ottawa Race Weekend website&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Ottawa Race Weekend website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Road closures for Sunday's marathon and half marathon extend from Westboro to Rockcliffe Park and stretch as far south as Hog's Back Park.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"514\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6c998590116a733df6391cd1a49ccff1.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New road closures for Great Glebe Garage Sale<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Great Glebe Garage Sale happens Saturday across that central Ottawa neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This year, event organizers said the city is imposing traffic and parking restrictions to manage congestion and safety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Those traffic restrictions include:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Road closures on Second and Fourth avenues between Lyon and O\u2019Connor, which will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Closures on\u00a0Glebe, First and Third avenues may also be put in place during that period depending on traffic congestion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Access to streets from Bank Street in either direction between\u00a0Glebe\u00a0and Fourth avenues will be closed.
