This not only showed his grip over leadership, but also gave him more control over the government.<\/p>\n Liberal candidate Danielle Martin won the University-Rosedale seat, while Doly Begum won in Scarborough Southwest.<\/p>\n These two wins, along with a narrow victory in Quebec’s Terrebonne, helped the Liberal Party of Canada reach 174 seats in the 343-member House of Commons.<\/p>\n This allows it to pass laws without needing support from other parties.<\/p>\n Following this win, Carney shared a message on X, claiming that voters<\/a> have trusted his government\u2019s plan.<\/p>\n \u201cTonight, voters have placed their trust in our new government’s plan. We accept that support with humility, determination, and a clear understanding of what this moment demands.\u201d He wrote.<\/p>\n Article continues below advertisement<\/p>\n ‘United, We Will Build a Canada for All’<\/p>\n Carney\u2019s became Canada\u2019s Prime Minister in 2025 as he replaced Justin Trudeau.<\/p>\n However, he was often seen as a political outsider, because prior to entering politics, he led both the Bank of England and Canada\u2019s central bank, earning economic experience over political skill.<\/p>\n After securing his place as the country’s Prime Minister, Carney faced a challenging situation amid public angst over trade tensions with Trump.<\/p>\n Such a situation arose after Trump<\/a>‘s tariff policies and comments about making Canada the 51st U.S. state.<\/p>\n Speaking at a recent Liberal Party event, Carney addressed these issues.<\/p>\n He said Canada would stay strong and united, and no one could take that away. \u201cUnited, we will build a Canada for all, a Canada [so] strong that no one can ever take [it] away,\u201d Carney said.<\/p>\n During his speech, Carney also promised to reduce Canada\u2019s dependence on the United States.<\/p>\n Many experts, including Andrew McDougall, assistant professor at the University of Toronto, have shown trust in Carney for his capabilities in dealing with Trump confidently.<\/p>\n \u201cCarney has done a fairly good job showing Canadians he can handle Trump,\u201d McDougall told USA Today<\/a>. <\/p>\n McDougall further stated that the election victories have put Carney in a strong position. \u201cHe will be able to pass legislation without having to go to the opposition to secure enough votes,\u201d the professor said.<\/p>\n
