Priorities are to be discussed. This meeting comes after the announcement of a proposed oil products pipelines from Alberta to the BC coast \u2014 an agreement between the federal government and Alberta that did not involved BC.<\/p>\n<p>Carney calls it an opportunity:<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s meeting is \u201can enormous opportunity\u201d, said Carney. \u201cThis is a positive agenda. Yes there are challenges in the world but this is what we\u2019re building for \u2014 the priorities of the province and the country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6271-Carney-VancouverOffice-May20-2026.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6271-Carney-VancouverOffice-May20-2026.jpg\" alt=\"prime minister, mark carney, vancouver\" class=\"wp-image-183645\"  \/><\/a>Prime Minister Mark Carney outside the BC Cabinet office in Vancouver, May 20, 2026. [screenshot]<\/p>\n<p>BC has about one third of this country\u2019s major projects and the advantages of natural resources, a strong electrical grid, ocean ports, and an educated work force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt in my mind that the prime minister is a friend to British Columbia,\u201d said Eby, while emphasizing that environment and economic development must go hand in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a series of other issues that we will work on as part of broader Canadian federalism and cooperation that is critical,\u201d said Carney.<\/p>\n<p>Eby calls a truthful discussion:<\/p>\n<p>What Eby is hoping for out of today\u2019s meeting includes \u201ca fair share for British Columbia of federal investment, that the prime minister has committed to for this country and a fair share of federal enthusiasm for the projects that we\u2019re bringing forward\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6261-Eby-VancouverOffice-May20-2026.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"323\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6261-Eby-VancouverOffice-May20-2026.jpg\" alt=\"premier david eby, vancouver\" class=\"wp-image-183644\"  \/><\/a>Premier David Eby outside his office in Vancouver, May 20, 2026. [screenshot]<\/p>\n<p>Eby said it would be a full and truthful discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Eby outlined his priorities for this meeting as \u201cthe major projects in BC that can really deliver for all Canadians\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been working for years to develop the projects that deliver the resources that people need, that they\u2019re looking for around the world,\u201d said Eby, listing off the mining sector, clean energy, and life sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad that the prime minister and I have agreed to enter into negotiations on BC\u2019s priorities going forward. It will be an important discussion,\u201d said Eby out in the Vancouver coastal sunshine. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islandsocialtrends.ca\/category\/business-and-economy\/energy-sector\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"95\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IST-Banner-ENERGYELECTRIFICATION-600x95-1.jpg\" alt=\"ist banner, energy, electrification\" class=\"wp-image-183398\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Impact of the US trade war:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I have to tell the prime minster, I think he\u2019s well aware, of the rupture that we face with our biggest trading partner and how it\u2019s showing up here in British Columbia,\u201d said Eby.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cAnd the need for us to work together to respond to that. And I know that British Columbians have seen the prime minister\u2019s leadership on this very point of strengthening our national economy,\u201d said Eby, as he stood side by side with Prime Minister Carney on the cabinet office balcony.<\/p>\n<p>Eby said that Carney\u2019s approach is about \u201censuring we can stand on our own two feet and we are all grateful that the prime minister stands up to people who threaten our sovereignty and threaten our economy\u201d, said Eby.<\/p>\n<p>Eby said BC is \u201cideally suited to meet this moment\u201d. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islandsocialtrends.ca\/category\/technology-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"93\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779307057_876_IST-Banner-Technology-600x93-1.jpg\" alt=\"ist banner, technology\" class=\"wp-image-183434\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Friends:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn important part of friendship is telling each other the truth,\u201d said Eby. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of the truth for British Columbia is that the development work that we\u2019re doing \u2013 developing our economy \u2013 has to go hand in hand with environmental protection for the next generation, including the North Coast tanker ban,\u201d said BC\u2019s premier today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is critically important for British Columbians, protecting our pristine north coast as well as ensuring that balance. [screenshot]<\/p>\n<p>Testament to BC:<\/p>\n<p>A number of the BC priorities \u201cshow up in the nation building project list\u201d, said Carney, noting that BC presents about one third of just over 20 strategies that the major projects office is looking at.<\/p>\n<p>Carney said that\u2019s a testament to the leadership of the premier and the energy and innovation in BC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important that we take those principles of building in the right way and work on those projects and others that we\u2019ll identify today,\u201d said Carney. <\/p>\n<p>Carney says progress will be seen in building \u201cin a way that makes us stronger, makes the province and the country more sustainable, and makes us more independent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metchosin.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779307059_508_DistrictofMetchosin-Leaderboard2023-RURAL-728x90-1.jpg\" alt=\"district of metchosin\" class=\"wp-image-118419\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Building on momentum:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building on some momentum that\u2019s built up,\u201d said Carney about progress with BC. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a discussion that very much respects the priorities and values of British Columbia,\u201d the prime minister said.<\/p>\n<p>With a broad declaration, Carney said those values are shared between the two leaders and that the country also shares them.<\/p>\n<p>Including workers:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are building British Columbia strong and sustainable for all.
