{"id":53637,"date":"2026-05-20T21:26:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/53637\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T21:26:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:26:06","slug":"celebrate-diversity-at-uwinnipegs-2slgbtqia-pride-week-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/53637\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate diversity at UWinnipeg&#8217;s 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Week events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UWinnipeg is excited to celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/pride\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Week<\/a> with a full schedule of on-campus and community events open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The festivities formally kick-off Tuesday, May 26 at 10 a.m. with a Progress and Two-Spirit flag-raising ceremony on the Wesley Hall front lawn, and culminate with the <a href=\"https:\/\/pridewinnipeg.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pride Winnipeg Parade<\/a> on Sunday, June 7. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/pride\/pride-week-events.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A full event listing<\/a>, including registration links, can be found below.<\/p>\n<p>Pride Week is held annually at UWinnipeg to recognize and amplify 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and their voices. Events commemorate successes and achievements while remembering historic and current struggles and discrimination faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to Pride Week!\u201d said Cara Isaak, Pride committee co-chair and Director of Wesmen Athletics. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful to all our friends on campus who have worked hard planning fantastic events so we can read, learn, share, spend time in community, and celebrate ourselves and each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPride Week is a meaningful time to celebrate the strength, joy, visibility, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ members of our campus community,\u201d said Travis Greene, Pride committee co-chair and Associate Vice-President, Student Engagement. \u201cIt also reminds us that creating a university where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported is shared work, grounded in care and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to attending events, community members can also purchase a 2026 Pride Week t-shirt from the <a href=\"https:\/\/winnipeg.bkstr.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Campus Store<\/a>. Five dollars from each sale supports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/pride\/scholarship-support.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2SLGBTQIA+ Scholarship<\/a>, a $500 award given to a second-, third-, or fourth-year undergraduate student who is active in community service or demonstrates academic promise in research on topics of relevance to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.<\/p>\n<p>Schedule of Events<br \/>\nTake Pride, Give Pride mobile message board<\/p>\n<p>Monday, May 25 to Friday, June 5 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/library.uwinnipeg.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Library<\/a><br \/>\nPost your positive and uplifting messages to the Library\u2019s Pride-themed mobile message board, which will travel around to all Library and Archives events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCelebrate You\u201d book display<\/p>\n<p>Monday, May 25 to Tuesday, June 30 in the Library<br \/>\nA selection of books by and about the 2SLGBTQIA+ community related to this year\u2019s Pride theme, Celebrate You, will be on display.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Source of Spiritual Strength\u201d: 40 Years of the Niciw\u00e2kan Native Gay Society archival exhibition <\/p>\n<p>Monday, May 25 to Monday, August 31 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.uwinnipeg.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Archives<\/a><br \/>\nThis exhibition will highlight records from the <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.uwinnipeg.ca\/our-collections\/two-spirit-archives.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Two-Spirit Archives<\/a> illustrating the history of the formation of the Niciw\u00e2kan Native Gay Society in 1986, and its role in advocating for the rights of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer people in Manitoba.<\/p>\n<p>Progress and Two-Spirit Flag-raising ceremony<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, May 26 at 10 a.m. on the Wesley Hall front lawn (rain location: Convocation Hall)<br \/>\nJoin your fellow UWinnipeg community members in hoisting the Progress and Two-Spirit flags on campus in celebration of 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Week.<\/p>\n<p>Drag Storytime in the Library<\/p>\n<p>Two-Spirit\/Indigiqueer Tea and Bannock Social<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Archives<br \/>\nTo celebrate the 40th\u00a0anniversary of the founding of the Niciw\u00e2kan Native Gay Society, and the launch of the Archives\u2019 related exhibit, the campus community and the wider public are invited to enjoy food, friendship, music, and a drag performance. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/machform\/view.php?id=815344\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Please RSVP online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Makers Market<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, June 2 from 12 to 5 p.m. in Riddell Atrium, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/art-gallery\/programming\/2026-27\/two-spirit-and-indigiqueer-makers-market.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">presented by Gallery 1C03<\/a>.<br \/>\nTalented makers who identify as Two-Spirit or Indigiqueer will be on campus to sell their beautiful, handmade creations. From jewelry and beaded accessories to paintings, drawings, prints, puzzles, and home decor, there\u2019s something for everyone\u2019s tastes and budget at the market.<\/p>\n<p>Pride Month Bead Club<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, June 4; Tuesday, June 9; Tuesday, June 16; and Thursday, June 18 from 1 to 3 p.m.<br \/>\nGallery 1C03, in collaboration with the Indigenous Student Services Centre and the M\u00e9tis Inclusion Office, will host a Pride-themed bead club on select days throughout June. Materials will be supplied and no experience needed. Participants can attend one or more dates of this free program. For more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/art-gallery\/programming\/2026-27\/pride-month-bead-club.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gallery 1C03\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pride Parade<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, June 7 beginning at 10 a.m.<br \/>\nAll students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.uwinnipeg.ca\/pride-parade-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">register to walk with UWinnipeg in the 2026 Pride Winnipeg Parade<\/a>.<br \/>\nPlease arrive at 10 a.m. at the parade rally area in Memorial Park (corner of Broadway Avenue and Memorial Boulevard).<br \/>\nThe parade will start at 11 a.m. The parade route will take us north up Memorial Boulevard then east down Portage Avenue, past the Blue Cross Park baseball stadium, concluding at the Winnipeg Pride Festival at The Forks.<br \/>\nPlease dress for the weather and wear your best walking shoes.
