{"id":53917,"date":"2026-05-21T01:12:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T01:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/53917\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T01:12:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T01:12:14","slug":"vancouvers-broadway-stretch-now-open-at-main-street-intersection-after-4-month-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/53917\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver&#8217;s Broadway stretch now open at Main Street intersection after 4-month closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A stretch of Vancouver&#8217;s East Broadway reopened to one lane of traffic in each direction Wednesday at the Main Street intersection, a week ahead of schedule, after a closure since late January due to the Broadway Subway project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The major arterial had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/broadway-main-street-closure-broadway-project-city-of-vancouver-9.7061194\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:closed between Main and Quebec streets;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;closed between Main and Quebec streets&quot;}\" class=\"link \">closed between Main and Quebec streets<\/a> for months, as crews removed the traffic deck ahead of the opening of the future Mount Pleasant station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The province said work on that particular stretch progressed ahead of schedule, which also means that all four lanes of Broadway would reopen by July instead of September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A business owner in the area says they&#8217;ve suffered from a severe downturn in foot traffic due to the subway construction project \u2014 and the sidewalk in front remains closed as work progresses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Ideally, we would be having people walk by and see the brand. And up until now, like the last four months, have been really hard \u2014 because no one can even drive by and see that we&#8217;re here,&#8221; said Lexi Soukoreff, the founder of the clothing brand Daub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Soukoreff&#8217;s store has been at the intersection of Broadway and Quebec Street for over a decade.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Lexi Soukoreff, the founder of clothing brand Daub, is seen in her store on May 20, 2026. So we&#8217;d like to be able to like have more walk by and even [host] events, right?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Daub founder said she was told the stretch would be fully open by the end of summer, but she was skeptical given the Broadway Subway project has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/broadway-subway-extension-delayed-1.7215046\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:missed previous deadlines;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;missed previous deadlines&quot;}\" class=\"link \">missed previous deadlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I guess that does worry me because especially in the summer \u2014 Vancouver&#8217;s busy, it&#8217;s super vibrant. So having people walk up and down the street is really important,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another closure at Cambie Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">One resident who lives near Broadway and Main Street said, as someone who drives to work every day, the closure was really tough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The traffic, like, in this little intersection has been awful.
