A flight from Paris to Detroit was forced to land in Canada due to concerns that one passenger could bring Ebola to the US.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s Air France Flight<\/a> 378 departed Charles de Gaulle around 4 p.m. local time. The Boeing 777 was supposed to land at Detroit Metropolitan Airport around eight hours later.<\/p>\n However, data from Flightradar24 shows that the airplane adjusted its course and instead diverted to Montreal.<\/p>\n A Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told Business Insider this was because one of the passengers was not allowed into the US.<\/p>\n In a statement, they said Air France “boarded a passenger from the Democratic Republic of Congo in error.”<\/p>\n “Due to entry restrictions put in place to reduce the risk of the Ebola virus, the passenger should not have boarded the plane,” they added.<\/p>\n Non-Americans who have been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan in the last 21 days have been barred from entering the US<\/a> by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n The CBP spokesperson said the agency “took decisive action and prohibited the flight” from landing in Detroit.<\/p>\n “CBP, in coordination with CDC, is taking the necessary measures to protect public health and reduce the risk of Ebola<\/a> disease introduction into the United States,” they added.<\/p>\n Air France and the CDC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n
