Lawson was forced to retire from last year\u2019s Canadian Grand Prix with a power unit issue<\/a>. <\/p>\n

However, the Circuit Giles Villeneuve is a favourite among the drivers, given its combination of fast straights and technical corners, and the Kiwi hopes for better this year. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting,\u201d Lawson said. \u201cIt was a track that I loved driving last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t have a very good weekend, but I really love this place, so I\u2019m excited to get into it this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an upgrade that we hope delivers well. If that all happens, then hopefully we\u2019ll be in a good place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson was also forced out of the Miami Grand Prix when a mechanical failure in the gearbox saw him lose control of his car and crash into Alpine\u2019s Pierre Gasly<\/a>, with both drivers\u2019 races ended as a result. <\/p>\n

Lawson was found not to be at fault and avoided any punishment.<\/p>\n

He sits 10th in the drivers\u2019 standings after the first four races of the year, as the second-best of the four Red Bull-backed cars.<\/p>\n

And after positive results in China <\/a>and Japan<\/a>, he and Racing Bulls know there is potential for another good showing in Canada. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel good, we\u2019re trying to get used to making the most out of these cars. We\u2019re learning every weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the regulations change as well, we\u2019re trying to stay on top of them. It\u2019s a lot of learning at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiami was a tough weekend, but I think personally I felt really good. I feel good coming into this weekend as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The weekend\u2019s only free practice session begins at 4.30am (NZT), before sprint qualifying at 8.30am. <\/p>\n
