Service&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Ottawa Police Service<\/a> said officers responded \u201cto a call at a commercial business in the ByWard Market just before 3:30 a.m. for an unknown person who had entered the premises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAs officers responded, the individual fled, and in the process, sustained serious injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and has invoked its mandate,\u201d the statement added. \u201cAny further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the SIU.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Ottawa Paramedic Service confirmed to the Citizen that it responded to a parking garage at 30 York St. at about 3:40 a.m. and found a man with critical, life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He was transported to an Ottawa trauma centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The SIU investigates police interactions that may have resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm and\/or
