Alongside the hockey, he’s been making the most of being here – travelling around the UK and Europe.<\/p>\n
Ice hockey, he explained, is something you grow up with in Canada.<\/p>\n
He started young, with rinks close to home and even one in the family backyard during winter.<\/p>\n
Being the youngest, he often found himself in goal, and that’s where he stayed.<\/p>\n
It might not look like the easiest position, but he said modern equipment makes it safer than it once was.<\/p>\n
Cole said the style and facilities can vary between the UK and North America, but he’s been impressed with the set-up at Sapphire Ice and Leisure Centre and the atmosphere created by the home crowd.<\/p>\n
Attendances have been strong, and while the rink isn’t the largest, the noise level more than makes up for it.<\/p>\n
Like most players, he sticks to a routine rather than strict superstitions, and said preparation is the best way to deal with nerves.<\/p>\n
He also spoke about the importance of enjoying the game, something he has been reminded of by family when things don’t quite go to plan.<\/p>\n
Off the ice, he was keen to highlight the role of supporters and volunteers, saying the club wouldn’t function without them.<\/p>\n
