Lance Stroll will take a grid penalty for his home grand prix in Canada to continue the misery for Aston Martin this weekend.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Stroll’s AMR26 has taken two new power unit components for the 70-lap race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve beyond the permitted allocation.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
The car now has a new energy store and control electronics unit, both of which are the fourth this season – in only the fifth race of the year – when only three are allowed for an entire campaign.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
It means the Montr\u00e9al driver, who was due to start from 21st on the grid, will now line up in the pit lane, compounding Aston Martin’s horrible weekend.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
In sprint qualifying on Friday, team-mate Fernando Alonso crashed in the opening 12-minute session, and although the two-time F1 champion set a time good enough to reach SQ2, he was unable to take part due to the damage sustained.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
On the grid for the sprint, Stroll was due to start 17th, but sustained a suspension issue with his car, which led to him being wheeled off and needing to start from the pit lane.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Alonso was then the only driver who retired during the sprint due to a technical issue. Stroll was at least 16th of the 21 who finished.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Ahead of grand qualifying, two incidents unfolded in a matter of seconds, as first Alonso was released into the pit-lane path of the Alpine of Franco Colapinto. The unsafe release earned the team a \u20ac5,000 fine.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
