The Calgary Marathon reached the finish line Sunday morning as runners wrapped up the weekend with the full- and half-marathon events.<\/p>\n

At 6:45 a.m., runners gathered along 11th Avenue for the 42.2-kilometre Servus Calgary Marathon and 21.1-km Centaur Subaru Marathon, with the finish line at Enmax Park in Stampede Park.<\/p>\n

With 20,000 participants, 1,600 volunteers and countless Calgarians who came out to support participants, it was a record-breaking year, said Calgary Marathon Society vice-chair Meredith Conrod, who also ran the half-marathon earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s phenomenal to see everyone out there running their own race,\u201d Conrod said. \u201cThere\u2019s people trying to run their very first half-marathon or full marathon today, and then I even met a gentleman at Expo this weekend who\u2019s been running this for 57 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michelle Spencer of Guelph, Ont., was this year\u2019s top female master with a time of 2:48:40.<\/p>\n

It was her second time in Calgary for the marathon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just hoping for a personal best, and I honestly just wanted to feel really good and I did,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cI felt really good the whole entire way. The crowd support was awesome, even the support from the other runners on the out and back, they supported me.\u201d<\/p>\n

After finishing second in the ASICS Runkeeper 10 km a day earlier, Nageso Nyafaro Tuse was Sunday\u2019s top male master with a time of 2:22:18.<\/p>\n

Tuse, originally from Kenya, moved to Canada in 2024.<\/p>\n

Prior to his arrival, he said he trained for five years in Iten, known globally as \u201cThe Home of Champions\u201d for marathon and distance running.<\/p>\n

Last November, he moved to Calgary from Edmonton to work at Gord\u2019s Running Store.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have to train and they have to commit consistency, consistent training, and (be) really confident,\u201d Tuse said. \u201cMarathons are how you believe. If you tell yourself you can make it, you can make it. It\u2019s easy, but for some people it\u2019s maybe very hard, but you have to tell yourself you can make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next year, he hopes to run in the Winnipeg Marathon and the Edmonton Marathon.<\/p>\n

The event raised more than $700,000 for over 100 charities over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The Strong Like Sloane Foundation hosted the biggest presence at this year\u2019s marathon with 212 members, each wearing bright green shirts.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Claire Masikewich\u2019s daughter, Sloane, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.<\/p>\n

After discovering that only seven per cent of funding for cancer research in Canada goes to pediatric cancer, she decided to start the foundation in 2024.<\/p>\n

At the final stretch alongside her team, Masikewich said they were all waiting for their lone runner in the full marathon to cross the finish line.<\/p>\n

Chad Skeans, Lindsay Miller and Lorne Miller brought Sloane Masikewich along for the last leg of the Servus Calgary Marathon on Sunday, May 24, 2026. They all ran under the charity Strong Like Sloane to raise money for pediatric cancer research after the young girl\u2019s own battles with cancer.<\/p>\n

During their first year, the foundation had 185 members and raised $120,000 for the Alberta Children\u2019s Hospital Foundation and their pediatric cancer research efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year we had 155 people and raised $166,000 and this year we have 212 people on our run team, and we have raised over $120,000 and we still have more money coming in and it\u2019s all for pediatric cancer research here in our province,\u201d Masikewich said.<\/p>\n
