OTTAWA \u2014 Therese Brisson has been named the new chief executive officer of Skate Canada, the organization announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Brisson will take over July 27, replacing Debra Armstrong after a decade in the role.<\/p>\n
A two-time Olympic medallist in women\u2019s hockey, Brisson is set to leave her role as president and CEO of Alpine Canada after nearly six years with the organization.<\/p>\n
She has also served on the boards of the Canadian Olympic Committee and Own the Podium.<\/p>\n
\u201cSkate Canada has a proud history and a thriving community across the country,” Brisson said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the board, staff, athletes, coaches, volunteers, and partners to help shape the next chapter of success for skating in Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n
Skate Canada said Brisson will oversee the organization\u2019s operations and strategic direction while working with stakeholders across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the Canadian sport system and a passion for excellence,” said Skate Canada president Karen Butcher.<\/p>\n
The organization said her mandate includes supporting grassroots participation, athlete excellence and the continued growth of skating in Canada.<\/p>\n
