{"id":63522,"date":"2026-05-27T18:39:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T18:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/63522\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T18:39:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T18:39:07","slug":"canadas-top-sprinters-to-make-diamond-league-season-debuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/63522\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada&#8217;s top sprinters to make Diamond League season debuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, the Diamond League released the full start list for the Meeting International Mohammed VI d\u2019Athl\u00e9tisme in Rabat, Morocco, featuring several of Canada\u2019s top sprinters.<\/p>\n<p>Paris 2024 Olympic 4x100m gold medallists Aaron Brown and Andre De Grasse headline the 200m, and Canadian women\u2019s 100m and 200m record holder Audrey Leduc\u00a0is competing in the women\u2019s 200m. Canadian 400mH record holder, Savannah Sutherland, is listed to make her Diamond League debut in the women\u2019s 400mH.<\/p>\n<p>Stacked men\u2019s 200m field<\/p>\n<p>For the third Diamond League meeting of the season, the men\u2019s 200m features some of the fastest athletes on the planet. De Grasse ran a season\u2019s best 19.84 to win the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in April, with Brown finishing right behind him in 20.07. Both sprinters\u2019 times were their <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/andre-de-grasse-clocks-his-fastest-marks-in-years-in-botswana\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fastest marks since 2023<\/a>. Photo: Nick Iwanyshyn<\/p>\n<p>Also entered are 200m Olympic champion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/the-scene\/botswana-puts-olympic-champion-on-five-dollar-bill\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Letsile Tebogo<\/a>\u00a0of Botswana, the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships 200m bronze medallist\u00a0Bryan Levell of Jamaica and American <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/noah-lyles-and-kenny-bednarek-to-clash-again-in-lausanne-after-heated-u-s-finals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kenneth Bednarek<\/a>, the 2025 world championship silver medallist.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian women making season debut<\/p>\n<p>Leduc is <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/the-scene\/audrey-leduc-breaks-canadian-100m-record-again\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada\u2019s top female sprinter<\/a>, and her first Diamond League appearance of the season will offer another chance to measure herself against elite international competition. In April, she posted an 11.10 at the Grand Prix\u2013the fastest time by a Canadian so far in 2026. She holds national records of 10.94 in the 100m and 22.36 in the 200m. She is set to face Jamaica\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/world-champion-shericka-jackson-withdraws-from-womens-200m-at-olympics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shericka Jackson<\/a>, the 2025 world championship bronze medallist in 200m. Photo: Nick Iwanyshyn<\/p>\n<p>Sutherland owns both the Canadian and NCAA records in the 400mH at 52.46, but ended her 2025 campaign on a disappointing note after<a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/savannah-sutherland-eliminated-in-400m-heats-at-world-championships\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> missing the world championship finals<\/a>.
