{"id":64046,"date":"2026-05-28T00:45:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T00:45:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/64046\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T00:45:35","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T00:45:35","slug":"canada-doctor-euthanizes-man-after-evaluation-at-tim-hortons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/64046\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada doctor euthanizes man after evaluation at Tim Hortons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Canadian doctor euthanized a 45-year-old patient suffering from inflammatory bowel disease and depression after a quick assessment outside a Tim Hortons, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. James MacLean, from London, Ontario, was investigated following allegations he improperly administered Canada\u2019s controversial Medical Assistance in Dying to Thomas Dillon,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/ontario-man-dies-of-maid-after-being-assessed-outside-tim-hortons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the National Post reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dillon, who suffered from Crohn\u2019s disease, was assessed by MacLean outside a Tim Hortons in June 2023 and found eligible for euthanasia under \u201ctrack 2,\u201d designed for patients not expected to die imminently but who have an incurable condition.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Dillon, 45, was suffering from IBS and depression when he was euthanized. Sifton Funeral Home<\/p>\n<p>MacLean exchanged dozens of text messages with Dillon about plans to be medically euthanized, and even personally drove him to a morgue facility to carry out the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>There, in June 2024, the doctor injected Dillon with a lethal cocktail of drugs inside a holding facility room at an industrial unit where human cadavers were prepared for funerals, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate case, MacLean allegedly failed to administer one of the three drugs used in assisted deaths in Canada on a patient, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The unidentified patient resumed breathing after they were pronounced dead, and MacLean had already left the home, after he allegedly wasn\u2019t given a drug that paralyzes the body\u2019s muscles, including those involved in breathing.<\/p>\n<p>His case is raising fresh concerns about MAID\u2019s accountability and oversight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is striking is not only the seriousness of the concerns identified in these cases, but the limited regulatory response,\u201d Dr. Ramona Coelho, a family physician and former member of Ontario\u2019s MAID death review committee,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-ontario-doctor-maid-complaints-supervision-regulator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">told the Globe and Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. James MacLean agreed to the procedure following an assessment outside a Tim Hortons in Ontario, Canada.
