2022 pileup on Montreal\u2019s South Shore has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Baljeet Singh, 29, appeared at the Longueuil, Que., courthouse Wednesday via videoconference from a detention centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The charges stem from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/highway-30-pileup-1.6526007\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:collision on Highway break-words\">Evidence shows that Singh was on\u00a0his cellphone playing an online game at the time of the collision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Singh\u2019s semi-trailer failed to slow down as it approached a construction zone, slamming into several vehicles, according to witnesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec (SQ) confirmed that seven vehicles were struck in the pileup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nancy Lefran\u00e7ois, 42, and her 11-year-old son, Lo\u00efc, were killed, while 10 others were injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Following the crash, Singh was treated briefly at a hospital for nervous shock but fell off the grid the next day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Authorities said he fled to Toronto before leaving for India and California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">An <a href=\"https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/nouvelle\/2191844\/carambolage-a30-brossard-singh-camionneur\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:international arrest warrant;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" was formally charged in September 2025 with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et p\u00e9nales, the maximum penalty for dangerous driving causing death is life imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Singh is
