{"id":70869,"date":"2026-06-02T06:17:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T06:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/70869\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T06:17:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T06:17:11","slug":"icc-suspends-cricket-canadas-membership-what-is-icc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/70869\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC suspends Cricket Canada\u2019s membership | What is ICC?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Canada over breaches of the national board&#8217;s membership obligations.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 However, Canadian national representative teams will continue to be eligible to participate in ICC events during the period of suspension.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The move comes weeks after the ICC\u2019s anti-corruption unit launched an investigation into Cricket Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To support the continued participation and development of the national teams, Cricket Canada will be permitted to access ICC funding through a controlled funding mechanism, under the oversight of ICC management, solely for approved national team programmes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Cricket Canada will have to follow a set of conditions, aimed at fixing its governance and administrative issues, to restore membership.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The progress against these conditions will be monitored by the ICC Normalisation Committee, supported by ICC management, with reinstatement of membership subject to the board being satisfied that the conditions have been fully met.<\/p>\n<p>International Cricket Council (ICC)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body for cricket.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Representing 108 member nations, the ICC governs and administrates the game and works with its members to grow the sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The ICC is responsible for the staging of all ICC events.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The ICC presides over the ICC Code of Conduct, playing conditions, the Decision Review System and other ICC regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It also appoints all match officials that officiate at all sanctioned international matches.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Through the Anti-Corruption Unit it coordinates action against corruption and match fixing.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It was founded on June 15, 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, at Lord\u2019s under the chairmanship of the MCC president, the Earl of Chesterfield. England, South Africa and Australia were its founding members.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In the late 1920s, regular meetings took place and ICC began to emerge as an organisation. Even then it was still very much an adjunct of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
