{"id":71961,"date":"2026-06-02T22:30:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T22:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/71961\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T22:30:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T22:30:17","slug":"bmo-turns-cult-film-cameo-into-real-world-takeover-in-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/71961\/","title":{"rendered":"BMO Turns Cult Film Cameo Into Real\u2011World Takeover in Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fake ad from the cult film Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is now appearing in Toronto in an \u201cart imitating life imitating art\u201d moment from TBWA and BMO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The film has a pretty big cult following, and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/nirvanna_the_band_the_show_the_movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">97% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, and it just\u00a0won six awards\u00a0at the Canadian Screen Awards this past weekend\u00a0in Toronto, including\u00a0Best Motion Picture,\u00a0Best Lead Performer in a Comedy Film, and Best Supporting Performance in a Comedy Film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the cult film Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol accidentally travel back to 2008, creating an alternate timeline where Jay becomes \u201cThe BMO Guy,\u201d appearing on a giant digital billboard in Toronto\u2019s Sankofa Square.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BMO has made the fictional moment real.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From May 27\u00a0to\u00a0June 3, BMO will \u201cglitch\u201d its digital boards in Toronto\u2019s Sankofa Square, temporarily replacing its current spokesperson, Lamorne Morris, with Jay McCarrol, as if an alternate timeline is bleeding into this one.
