Just under six months after closing \u2014 and issuing a distinctly final announcement<\/a> in the process \u2014\u00a0a much-loved local Toronto brewery is back in business, but it looks different this time around.<\/p>\n

When Beaches Brewing Co.<\/a> announced in December\u00a02025 that it had closed permanently, there was really no question that then-owner Carl Pratt really meant it.<\/p>\n

The brewery had occupied its vibrant aqua-and-orange space on Queen East for about six years before Pratt decided to pull the plug. At the time of the closure, he\u00a0issued a letter, candidly citing the struggles of maintaining business during the winter months, when traffic in the neighbourhood drops off considerably, along with the all-too-common refrain of rising costs and hair-thin margins as his reasons for giving the business up.<\/p>\n

But the residents of the Beaches, a people unyieldingly passionate about their local businesses, were gutted by the news. In the days leading up\u00a0to the brewery’s last service, they showed up in droves to send their well-wishes, while nervously gripping pints of pale ale as they wondered what would take over the space next.<\/p>\n

Well, good news: what came next, as it turns out, was a new iteration of Beaches Brewing Co., albeit with a new look and a handful of new owners who have joined Pratt in the revival.<\/p>\n

Gone is Beaches Brewing Co.’s tropical colour palette and beachy logo, replaced by a slick black-and-bronze sign with an updated logo; a cresting wave from which a single hop emerges, casting rays around it like the rising sun.<\/p>\n

Reopening in late May, it became immediately clear that the menu, too, had\u00a0undergone a more elegant update, leaning away from the standard pub fare the brewery used to serve and into a more distinct suite of dishes based in French and South Asian influences.<\/p>\n

One important factor remains in place, though: Pratt, heading up the brewing business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Beaches stretch of Queen East is one of notoriously high turnover, so even if it looks different, it’s a relief for residents that an old standard has been able to beat the odds and stick around a little longer.<\/p>\n

And with newcomer Leuty’s on Queen<\/a> gearing up to open its doors in the next block later this summer, it’s shaping up to be a tasty summer on the shores of Lake Ontario, indeed.<\/p>\n
