VANCOUVER, BC \u2013 Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy forward Ryder Sewell to a Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) contract in MLS NEXT Pro through the 2028 season.<\/p>\n
Sewell becomes the 19th Canadian teenager to be signed to a professional contract since WFC2 began play in MLS NEXT Pro in 2022.<\/p>\n

Sewell, 16, joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy program in 2023 after previously playing for local youth teams Surrey FC and Supra Academy.<\/p>\n
The academy forward signs his first professional contract after making eight starts in 15 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro since 2025. So far in 2026, Sewell has recorded one goal and ranks third on the team in key passes with 13.<\/p>\n
Sewell also made four appearances and scored one goal for the \u2018Caps in the team\u2019s 2025 BC Premier League (formerly League1 BC) season.<\/p>\n
Concluding the 2025 academy season, Sewell was recognized at the club\u2019s academy awards, winning U-16 Player of the Year, Player\u2019s Player of the Year, and named to the Academy Starting XI.<\/p>\n
Over the past two years, Sewell has taken part in preseason with the Whitecaps FC MLS first team in Marbella, Spain.<\/p>\n
Sewell has one call-up to Canada\u2019s U-16 national team camp in May 2025.<\/p>\n
