But new data shared with Newsweek by CoStar suggest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/hotels\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hotels<\/a> in the United States are not reaping the same benefits as those in Canada or Mexico. The data follows a report in May indicating that visa concerns have contributed to suppressed demand.<\/p>\n<p>World Cup Hotel Bookings: Mexico, Canada and US Compared<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">The CoStar data analyzes hotel bookings in 14 of the 16 cities where World Cup matches will be held. It excluded data from Kansas City and Philadelphia. The data is for the day of each match.<\/p>\n<p>Read More on News<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Cities from Mexico and Canada take the top four spots for the average booking percentage for each match day, while San Francisco has the highest average for any city in the United States. For instance, Los Angeles has a 23.6 percent booking rate on July 10, compared to a 24 percent booking rate one year earlier. Hoteliers could be holding out for last-minute bookings closer to matches.<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"12051602\" alt=\"A view of preparations outside Gillette Stadium, temporarily known as Boston Stadium, in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on May 26.\" caption=\"A view of preparations outside of Gillette Stadium, temporarily known as Boston Stadium, in Foxborough, Massachusetts on May 26, 2026.\" captionoverride=\"A view of preparations outside Gillette Stadium, temporarily known as Boston Stadium, in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on May 26.\" credit=\"Michael Owens\/Getty Images\" sourcealt=\"\" sources=\"[]\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2000\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;aspect-ratio:inherit;object-fit:cover\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Copy-of-32-image-40.png\"\/>Visa Concerns, High Prices Limit World Cup Hotel Demand<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">A report from the American Hotel &amp; Lodging Association (AHLA) released on May 4, which surveyed hoteliers across World Cup host cities, found that 80 percent of respondents said bookings were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/world-cup-host-cities-hotels-tickets-struggling-unsold-12003833\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tracking below initial forecasts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">It found that 65 to 70 percent of respondents pointed to \u201cvisa barriers and broader geopolitical concerns\u201d as suppressing international demand amid the Trump administration\u2019s immigration crackdown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Rosanna Maietta, president and CEO of AHLA, wrote in the report that the U.S. and FIFA must \u201censure a welcoming and seamless experience for international travelers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">\u201cThat means avoiding unnecessary cost increases on visas and transportation to and from the games, and discouraging local jurisdictions from adding last-minute tax hikes that hurt the games and consumers,\u201d Maietta wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/map-shows-how-much-rent-mortgage-cost-world-cup-ticket-12036109\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expensive ticket prices<\/a> could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/thousands-world-cup-tickets-available-usmnt-opening-game-12047465\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also be playing a role<\/a>\u2014the Associated Press reported that tickets for the June 14 semifinal in Arlington, Texas, were listed from $2,705 to $11,130. Tickets for the semifinal in Atlanta the following day were priced from $2,725 to $10,635. Some tickets, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/world-cup-ticket-prices-fall-below-100-amid-underwhelming-demand-11962138\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have been available for less than $100 due to low demand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said market rates must apply to the tickets. \u201cYou cannot go to watch in the U.S. a college game, not even speaking about a top professional game of a certain level, for less than $300,\u201d he said in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">FIFA has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fifa-drops-thousands-more-world-cup-tickets-scrutiny-12030889\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">faced scrutiny<\/a> over its ticket rollout, driven by its use of &#8220;dynamic pricing,&#8221; which adjusts fares based on demand. In late May, New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport subpoenaed FIFA as part of a joint investigation into its World Cup ticketing system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\">Data previously shared with Newsweek from travel platforms Airbnb and Booking.com showed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/world-cup-short-term-bookings-surge-despite-unsold-tickets-hotels-warning-11983104\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sharp rise in accommodation searches and bookings<\/a> tied to match dates despite limited demand for hotels.
