MobileSyrup\u00a0has reached out for more details and will update this story once a response has been received.<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft Winnipeg opened in 2018 and largely served as a support studio for numerous Ubisoft games, including Rainbow Six Siege\u00a0and various\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed\u00a0titles. It had also connected with a lot of local institutions, including the University of Manitoba, to help grow the provincial game development ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The closure of Ubisoft Winnipeg comes just five months after<a href=\"https:\/\/mobilesyrup.com\/2026\/01\/07\/ubisoft-halifax-studio-unionization-shutdown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Ubisoft shuttered its Halifax team<\/a>. The studio had voted to unionize shortly before, although Ubisoft claimed the closure was unrelated to those union efforts and were instead part of wider cost-cutting measures. Ubisoft Halifax workers<a href=\"https:\/\/mobilesyrup.com\/2026\/04\/16\/ex-ubisoft-halifax-workers-accept-settlement-after-studio-closure\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> ultimately reached a settlement with Ubisoft a few months later<\/a>. This has led some to scrutinize Ubisoft for <a href=\"https:\/\/thewalrus.ca\/ubisoft-canada-tax-breaks-layoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">receiving billions of dollars in subsidies from the Canadian government over the years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, <a href=\"https:\/\/mobilesyrup.com\/2024\/12\/04\/ubisoft-xdefiant-shut-down-studio-closures\/#:~:text=As%20part%20of%20the%20game%27s,277%20employees%20being%20laid%20off.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ubisoft has also closed its San Francisco and Osaka studios<\/a> amid <a href=\"https:\/\/mobilesyrup.com\/2026\/02\/19\/ubisoft-toronto-layoffs-splinter-cell-remake-development\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wider layoffs at studios like Ubisoft Toronto<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mobilesyrup.com\/2026\/01\/21\/ubisoft-cancels-prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-remake\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">project cancellations<\/a>, including Ubisoft Montreal\u2019s\u00a0Prince of Persia\u00a0remake.\u00a0Insider Gaming also reports that more than 100 Ubisoft Montreal employees who were working on Rainbow Six Siege\u00a0and\u00a0Rainbow Six Siege Mobile\u00a0have been pulled off those projects, although they aren\u2019t believed to be affected by any layoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Update: 10\/06\/2026 at 12:07 p.m. ET \u2014 This article previously said around 85 employees were affected, but Ubisoft Canada confirmed it\u2019s around 65.
