On the heels of a thick blanket of snow, the City of Calgary will bring the brooms out on winter roads and begin its annual street sweeping campaign.<\/p>\n

Trucks will roll out starting April 20 in areas that can be swept appropriately after the accumulation of snow on Calgary streets from the April 15-16 spring snowstorm. \u00a0Sweeping will be done Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the winter months, spring clean-up is an opportunity for a refresh,\u201d said Chris Hewitt, manager of mobility maintenance with the City of Calgary.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program keeps our neighbourhoods safe and clean for everyone, and reduces the debris that enters our waterways through the stormwater system.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will be signs going up in communities that are on the City\u2019s sweeping schedule, or citizens can sign up for text or email alerts at Calgary.ca\/sweep<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Residential sweeping will continue through June, the City of Calgary said.<\/p>\n

Calgary Parking will be patrolling areas where street sweeping is planned. Camera cars will help enforce temporary sweeping bans, though officers will validate bans by confirming that signage is accurate and visible to area residents.<\/p>\n

Tens of thousands of tickets have been issued over the past five years for those vehicle owners who do not move their respective cars off the streets where street sweeping is being done.<\/p>\n

\u201cHelp us make a clean sweep by keeping your vehicle off the road for the duration of the ban, as street sweepers will make multiple passes,\u201d said Charles Gray, Patrol and Investigation Supervisor at Calgary Parking, in a prepared media release.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe coordinate our enforcement with mobility to ensure our camera cars and sweepers are working as closely as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hewitt thanked Calgarians in advance for helping keep cars off the street while sweepers pass through a neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s also a good time to remind property owners that if you have front collection on sweeping day you should place your black, green and blue carts on your lawn or the grassy boulevard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
