Edmonton\u2019s Michael Monaghan was watching the news with a warm coffee on May 8 when he decided to check on some Lotto Max tickets he\u2019d bought.<\/p>\n
He was immediately greeted with a pleasant surprise.<\/p>\n
\u201cI scanned the very first ticket, and it said $1 million,\u201d Monaghan said in a Thursday news release. \u201cI was honestly breathless.\u201d<\/p>\n
His first thought was to call his partner and tell her the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took a screenshot of the ticket to show her and to show my son, who promptly asked for a dirt bike,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Monaghan plans to use some of his winnings to pay off his late mother\u2019s condo, and \u201cI also see a new truck on the horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n
He plans to use the rest of the money on trips to places like the Dominican Republic, Ireland, and Hawaii.<\/p>\n
Monaghan bought his winning Lotto Max ticket from the Shell gas station near 127 Street and 132 Avenue.<\/p>\n
