With these contracts, the companies are expected to deliver concepts for a modern, flexible ground system. The data is used for everything from monitoring illegal fishing activities to assisting disaster relief efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MDA Space and Kepler are already part of the project\u2019s space segment. Alongside C-CORE, in December they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/space-agency\/news\/2025\/12\/government-of-canada-invests-47-million-to-secure-access-to-essential-canadian-earth-observation-data.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">awarded $747,000<\/a> each to deliver concepts for a new satellite. MDA was also awarded nearly $45 million to purchase specialized parts for the job.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Final thought: Canadian firms have been <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/first-sovereignty-then-the-world-canadas-rocket-builders-see-a-bigger-opening-in-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">benefitting<\/a> from the country\u2019s renewed interest in space, particularly after the launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/feds-6-6-billion-defence-industrial-strategy-takes-aim-at-building-a-robust-canadian-defence-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">Defence Industrial Strategy<\/a>, which named the domain one of Canada\u2019s key sovereign capabilities. Under that strategy, the government recently <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/feds-commit-nearly-225-million-to-advance-canadas-sovereign-space-launch-capabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">committed $225 million<\/a> to build out Canada\u2019s ability to send its own rockets into space.
