{"id":86451,"date":"2026-06-13T02:59:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T02:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/86451\/"},"modified":"2026-06-13T02:59:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T02:59:10","slug":"vancouvers-sunset-beach-closed-to-swimming-due-to-high-e-coli-levels-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/86451\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver&#8217;s Sunset Beach closed to swimming due to high E. coli levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sunset Beach in Vancouver&#8217;s West End neighbourhood is closed to swimming Friday after water sampling results showed high E. coli levels, health officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) said consecutive days of water sampling showed that levels of the bacteria far exceeded recommended guidelines at the beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Four other beaches in the city \u2014 English Bay in the West End, Third Beach in Stanley Park, Locarno Beach in Point Grey and Trout Lake in East Vancouver \u2014 are under investigation due to higher-than-expected E.coli sample results, according to VCH.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A spokesperson said swimming at those beaches aren&#8217;t restricted as of Friday afternoon, and an environmental factor may be behind the higher-than-usual E. coli levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Common causes include animal and bird populations, combined sewer overflows or sewage discharges from boats,&#8221; the spokesperson wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;For example, the rain that fell last weekend may have drawn in surface contaminants impacting the sample results.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The spokesperson added further investigation was underway to find out the source of the E. coli contamination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Health officials say swallowing water with high levels of E. coli <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/health\/ecoli-strains-alberta-outbreak-1.6965783\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:can lead to vomiting;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;can lead to vomiting&quot;}\" class=\"link \">can lead to vomiting<\/a>, infections, and\u00a0diarrhea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">E. coli can also irritate the skin.
