A popular city lido has applied for permission to host more events – including theatre and live music.<\/p>\n
Peterborough Lido, a Grade II listed Art Deco pool, opened in 1936 and has survived several threats of closure – and even a World War Two bombing raid in 1942.<\/p>\n
It is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary<\/a> but with eyes firmly on the future, operators have applied to Peterborough City Council for a premises licence.<\/p>\n The application suggests it could host films, gigs, solstice swims and sound bath experiences, but did not include an application to sell alcohol at the Bishop’s Road site.<\/p>\n The application was made by Peterborough Culture, Heritage, Learning and Leisure, the Local Democracy Reporting Service<\/a> said.<\/p>\n It requests permission for the open-air pool to host plays, films, live and recorded music and dancing within its grounds from 06:00 to 23:59, Mondays to Sundays.<\/p>\n The licence application also makes a request to provide “late night refreshment” from 23:00 to 23:59 on those nights, but no application for the sale of alcohol was included.<\/p>\n It highlights a concerted move by the lido in recent times to diversify its offerings to customers beyond the realm of leisure and fitness.<\/p>\n The lido is currently open until 20:30 some evenings.<\/p>\n Do you have a story suggestion for Peterborough?
