{"id":9696,"date":"2026-04-18T20:45:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T20:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/9696\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T20:45:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T20:45:09","slug":"canadian-man-kenneth-law-to-plead-guilty-in-suicide-kit-case-to-avoid-murder-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/9696\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian man Kenneth Law to plead guilty in suicide kit case to avoid murder trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">A Canadian man accused of helping 14 \u2060people in the province \u2060of Ontario kill themselves by selling a \u2060legal but deadly substance online will avoid a murder trial by pleading guilty to lesser charges, his lawyer said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Kenneth Law, 60, will plead guilty to counselling or aiding suicide under a deal with Crown prosecutors that will see more serious \u200cfirst-degree murder charges withdrawn, Matthew Gourlay of Henein Hutchison Robitaille said in an email.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Law\u2019s case is scheduled to return to court in Newmarket, Ontario, north of Toronto, on Monday. His plea will be entered at a later date, Gourlay said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Gourlay declined further comment. Ontario\u2019s Ministry of the Attorney General did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Law is facing 14 counts of \u2060first-degree murder and 14 counts of counselling or aiding suicide related to 14 victims, all Ontario residents between \u200cthe ages of 16 and 36 who died by suicide.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"York Regional Police Inspector Simon James speaks during a news conference on Kenneth Law\u2019s case in Mississauga, Ontario, in August 2023.
