{"id":99191,"date":"2026-06-22T21:47:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T21:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/99191\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T21:47:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T21:47:16","slug":"ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/99191\/","title":{"rendered":"IRCC updates police certificate requirements for International Experience Canada work permits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada has clarified police certificate requirements for foreign nationals applying for work permits through the International Experience Canada (IEC) program.<\/p>\n<p>The clarifications come in the form of updated instructions to officers published on the immigration department\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bottom-btn\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff; background: #e52237;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/wpteam.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071&amp;utm_content=Schedule+a+Free+Work+Permit+Consultation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-utm-content=\"Schedule a Free Work Permit Consultation\">Schedule a Free Work Permit Consultation<br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The updated instructions specify that the applicant&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-police-clearance.html#L?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">police certificate<\/a> for their current country of residence must have been issued within six months of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/ircc.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada<\/a> (IRCC) receiving their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-temporary-work-visa.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">work permit<\/a> application.<\/p>\n<p>The previous version of the instructions did not specify that this six-month window was tied to the date that IRCC receives the work permit submission.<\/p>\n<p>Another addition to the updated instructions clarified that for candidates who&#8217;ve lived in another country for six months or longer since turning 18, their certificate must have been issued after the last time they lived there.<\/p>\n<p>Per the updated instructions, this also applies to *U.S. citizens and permanent residents applying for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/international-experience-canada-program.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IEC<\/a>-specific work permit with the support of a recognized organization, as well as individuals from countries that do not normally require an upfront police certificate but are asked to provide one by an immigration officer.<\/p>\n<p>The updated instructions were published on the immigration department&#8217;s website on June 17, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>*U.S. citizens and PRs are not required to provide a police certificate if the U.S. is the only place they have lived.<\/p>\n<p>Police certificates help IRCC determine whether IEC candidates are admissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Candidates with a criminal record that results in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/immigration-inadmissibility.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inadmissibility<\/a> may not be approved for IEC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In most cases, citizens of countries participating in the IEC program are required to provide a police certificate when they submit their work permit application, for any region in which the candidate has spent six or more consecutive months since the age of 18.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Certain countries have different police certificate requirements:<\/p>\n<p>IEC is a bilateral youth mobility program that allows citizens of select partner countries (aged 18\u201335) to temporarily live and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/working-in-canada.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">work in Canada<\/a>, with reciprocal opportunities for Canadians abroad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To be considered for an IEC work permit, candidates need to create a profile and enter the applicable candidate pool(s), receive an invitation to apply, and submit a complete application for an IEC work permit within 20 days.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond providing the necessary police certificate(s), individuals must meet all program-specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/international-experience-canada-program.html#:~:text=months%2E-,Eligibility%20Requirements%20for%20the%20IEC%20Program?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-22_ircc-updates-police-certificate-requirements-for-international-experience-canada-work-permits_77071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eligibility requirements<\/a> to receive an IEC-specific work permit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because police certificates can often take a while to procure, it\u2019s advisable to begin gathering these in advance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is only one upload field for police certificates.
