\nfirst time in more than eight years. Welterweights take center
\nstage in the main event at the Canada Life Centre, where Gilbert
\nBurns<\/a> looks to stand his ground in the Top 15 against Mike
\nMalott<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Buckle up, as we examine the card from a bettor\u2019s perspective and
\ndo all we can to get the most bang for our buck in the latest
\ninstallment of Prime Picks:<\/p>\n

\nSTRAIGHT-UP PASS<\/p>\n

\nJourdain once again maintains a tenuous hold on momentum. A former
\nTKO
\nMajor League MMA<\/a> champion, the 30-year-old Canadian enters his
\nbantamweight co-headliner opposite Kyler
\nPhillips<\/a> on the heels of back-to-back guillotine choke
\nsubmission victories over Victor
\nHenry<\/a> and Davy Grant. Interesting tidbit: Jourdain has never
\nwon three fights in a row in the UFC during his seven-year run with
\nthe organization. In Phillips (+120), he draws a Rubik\u2019s cube
\nopponent who excels in many of the same areas he does. The
\nMMA Lab<\/a> rep finds himself on a two-fight losing streak, knowing
\na third straight loss would push him even further down the pecking
\norder at 135 pounds. Phillips\u2019 past victories over Yadong
\nSong<\/a>, Raoni
\nBarcelos<\/a> and Pedro
\nMunhoz<\/a> serve as a reminder of his considerable capabilities
\nonce the cage door closes behind him. Jourdain should be favored,
\nbut this has all the hallmarks of a potential trap fight on his
\nhome turf.\u2019DOG WILL HUNT<\/p>\n

\nMoises was never mighty, but he certainly has fallen. The
\nAmerican Top Team<\/a>-trained Brazilian tries to steady himself in
\nthe 155-pound weight class when he toes the line against Gauge Young<\/a>
\nin a three-round lightweight showcase. Moises, 31, flirted with
\ncontention some five years ago\u2014remember, he fought Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a> in the UFC on ESPN 26 main event in 2021\u2014but has
\nsince slipped into a maddening cycle of inconsistency. The onetime
\n
\nResurrection Fighting Alliance<\/a> champion has alternated between
\nwins and losses in each of his past five appearances, his victories
\nagainst Mitch
\nRamirez<\/a> and Trey Ogden<\/a>
\novershadowed by defeats to Benoit St.
\nDenis<\/a>, Ludovit
\nKlein<\/a> and Jared
\nGordon<\/a>. Nevertheless, Moises\u2019 well-rounded skills, his
\ngrappling in particular, make him a real threat to anyone outside
\nof the divisional elite. Young definitely qualifies. \u201cGee Money\u201d
\nfell to Quillan
\nSalkilld<\/a> on
\nDana White\u2019s Contender Series<\/a> in September 2024, made his
\nOctagon debut in a loss to Evan Elder<\/a>
\nsome eight months later and broke into the win column in his most
\nrecent outing\u2014a unanimous decision over Maheshate
\nHayisaer<\/a> at UFC Fight Night 257 on Aug. 23. Experience,
\npedigree and track record all favor Moises.
\n
\nAN ACCUMULATION CONTEMPLATION
\nBurns-Malott goes the distance (+300)

\nNallo<\/a> wins inside the distance (+100)<\/p>\n

\nThe sun has begun to set on Burns\u2019 outstanding career. Part of the
\nUFC fabric for the better part of 12 years now, the four-time
\nBrazilian jiu-jitsu world champion heads into his five-round
\nheadliner against Malott clinging to a roster spot, his shaky
\nposition the result of an alarming four-fight losing streak. Closer
\ninspection reveals a murderer\u2019s row of opposition, as those
\nsetbacks have come against Belal
\nMuhammad<\/a>, Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a>, Sean Brady<\/a>
\nand Michael
\nMorales<\/a>\u2014men with a combined record of 79-10. In short,
\nmatchmakers have not been kind to Burns. Malott, for all his
\nupside, represents a step back in competition for the former title
\nchallenger. The Canadian has never finished anyone close to Burns\u2019
\ncaliber and could be in for a prolonged battle as he hunts the most
\nsignificant victory of his career. Oversight from the judges may be
\nrequired.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nallo has put himself in position for a late-stage run
\nat relevance. The Tristar Gym export draws his first UFC test
\nagainst former Cage
\nWarriors<\/a> champion Jai Herbert<\/a>
\nand waltzes into their lightweight feature on the heels of five
\nconsecutive first-round finishes. Nallo secured his spot on the
\nroster via DWCS in September, when he punched out Samuel
\nSilva<\/a> in a little more than three minutes. The Firas Zahabi
\nprot\u00e9g\u00e9 has nailed down all 14 of his victories by knockout,
\ntechnical knockout or submission, providing him with the kind of
\naction-hero profile that promotional power brokers prefer If Nallo
\nwants to make some real waves at the sport\u2019s highest level, now
\nappears to be the time. He should have a willing dance partner in
\nHerbert, who has been stopped in four of his six pro losses.<\/p>\n

Finally, Barbosa packs some serious wallop into his 5-foot-6 frame.
\n\u201cTicoto\u201d makes his anticipated UFC debut when his three-round
\nfeatherweight prelim against Dennis
\nBuzukja<\/a> anchors the undercard. Barbosa seems to be hitting his
\nstride at age 27, as evidenced by the four consecutive first-round
\nknockouts that have boosted his finish rate to an eye-popping 94%.
\nThe Giants Team product cut his teeth in the
\nLegacy Fighting Alliance<\/a>, Jungle
\nFight<\/a> and Shooto
\nBrazil<\/a> organizations before he excelled on the Contender Series
\nin August, when he put away Damon
\nWilson<\/a> with contract-clinching punches 4:14 into their
\nencounter at the UFC Apex. Barbosa gets what appears to be an
\nadvantageous assignment in Winnipeg. Buzukja has lost three of his
\nfirst four fights in the UFC, including a 49-second stoppage defeat
\nto Jamall
\nEmmers<\/a> in 2023. Worse still, the ex-Ring of
\nCombat<\/a> champion has not suited up in more than 600 days. Rust
