No foul play is suspected after a store employee was found dead suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the entrance to Walmart in Lake Zurich Friday evening.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Lake Zurich Police Department responded around 8:27 p.m. Friday to the Walmart, 820 South Rand Road in Lake Zurich, for a report of a person shot.

911 callers reported the victim was unconscious and not breathing, according to emergency radio traffic.

Lake Zurich Deputy Police Chief Colin Gaffney said it was reported that a male subject was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers arrived and located the victim outside the entrance to the store.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the male subject dead at the scene, Gaffney said.

Crime scene tape was set up in the area as officers investigated.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified, responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the victim was a man in his 30s from Island Lake.

The man was a third-shift employee at the Walmart who had just been dropped off for work by a family member, Newton said.

The incident occurred just outside the west entrance/exit to the Walmart while the store was open and people were nearby.

No foul play is suspected and the investigation indicates the wound was self-inflicted.
