KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) – The Kilgore College Rangerettes are preparing for an upcoming trip to and performances in Switzerland.
Their big performance is at the Basel Tattoo, a huge music festival featuring military bands and popular musicians and dance groups.
Rangerettes tend to travel. They get invited all over the world because, well, people just love to see their performances. Like many of us, Rangerette Faith Stowe has never been to Switzerland.
“This will be my very first time. I’ve been overseas one other time, also with the Rangerettes, to London. So, I’m very, very excited,” Stowe said.
She knows the drill, and so does the rest of the very first drill team, although this is obviously a different line than the one from 1939.
“I should have been done in May, although we’ve been lucky enough to be invited on this trip. So, my time has been extended,” Stowe said.
It’s a two-year stint, and generally at least once a year, the Rangerettes perform out of the country.
“Not only are we representing Texas, the drill team community, but even a little bit of just the United States, going overseas. So, we just hope we leave such a beautiful and lasting impression, not only about the drill team world and the dance space, but really for Texas and the United States as well while we’re over there,” Stowe said.
She says their stay kicks off with three days of practice, and then it gets busy.
“We’re performing at the Basel Tattoo, and we’ll also be in a parade. I believe we have 11 performances to do while we are over there,” Stowe said.
And in one of the big ones, they team with the Canadian Celtic Highland Dancers.
“There should be over 100 of us on the floor at the same time. So, that will be very, very cool,” Stowe said.
And yes, her family has asked her to bring back some chocolate.
The last time the Rangerettes performed at the Basel Tattoo was 2018. They will be in Switzerland for two weeks.
