GENEAV-ON-THE-LAKE — A love of trucks and Ashtabula County has made area venues a focal point for trucks shows over the last 18 years, said Scott Carlson, who runs the event. “Class 8 on the Lake” drew truckers from all over the region and well beyond, with license plates from Minnesota and Florida appearing at the event. For the last three years, the event has made its weekend home in the village, showcasing a wide variety of trucks along the Strip, Carlson said. He said it is quite a show when more than 100 trucks parade from Indian Creek back to the Strip. The event can be a little loud, said Ashtabula resident Erik van’t Veer, who has been attending for the last five years. He said he won an award for a restored truck last year, and enjoys the event after spending years driving and working on trucks. “This is my first one [show],” said Logan Kosik, of Hinckley. ”I’m loving it.” He said he uses his truck to haul his “toys”, and found out about the event on Facebook. Zach Hanna, of Hadley, Pennsylvania, said he comes to show off his truck. John Sartoris of Fredonia, New York, said it was his fifth or sixth year coming to the event. He said he helps Carlson set up for the show and enjoys the people the trucks and the overall experience. van’t Veer restored a 1970 International cabover and was hanging out in an area with a highly detailed trucks that Carlson estimated were worth $ 4 million. Carlson grew up in Chardon and now lives in Ripley, New York, and loves to come back to his roots, he said. He said the show is sponsored by the Penn-Ohio Antique Truck Club of America. Vehicles at the show included pick-ups, tow trucks, and many others, with five classifications in the judging, Carlsons said. “We bring something different,” he said of the event. The event also benefits two local charities, with all proceeds going to Feed Our Vets and Honoring Our Heroes, Carlson said. He said the charities are active in the event and often stay all day.
