GENEVA, Ala. (WTVY) -A Geneva County man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a large oak limb fell on him as he walked with his grandson, officials said.
Melvin T. Dixon, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene after the limb fell along County Road 4 around 4:30 p.m. in the Fadette community, Geneva County Coroner Donnie Adkinson said.
A neighbor used a jack to lift the tree off Dixon, and family members also helped, Adkinson said.
“Despite their immediate and courageous efforts, Mr. Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene,” the coroner said in a statement.
Adkinson asked for prayers for Dixon’s family.
