For Geneva Boys Golf coach Brian Fink, success in golf starts long before the first tee shot. It begins with confidence, composure, and the ability to overcome the inevitable challenges that every round presents.
Those qualities have become the identity of the Eagle program entering the 2026 season.
The Eagles finished 8-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play a year ago and return just two starters, but Fink believes his team has the pieces to compete with anyone in Northeast Ohio.
“I see us competing with any team in our area,” Fink said. “We are a mentally tough team who continues to impress me with how they battle the challenges that golf brings them each day.”
Leading the way is senior captain Shayne Miniard, who earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County honors in 2025 while also being named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
“Our 2025 MVP, Shayne, can play with anyone and is our team captain,” Fink said.
Joining him is junior Matt Oros, another First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County selection who has been a varsity starter since his freshman season.
“Matt has started every year since his freshman season and improved each year,” Fink said. “His mental attitude toward the game is inspiring.”
Geneva also expects junior Carter Roberts to take a significant step after dedicating the offseason to improving his game.
“Looking to see Carter excel this year as he has worked hard on his game all winter,” Fink said.
Senior Tanner Hartz brings experience and leadership as a three-year letterwinner.
“Tanner is a three-year letter winner who is always pushing his team and himself to be their best,” Fink said.
Another senior expected to make an impact is Mayank Yadav, whose development has impressed the coaching staff despite having only one previous season of competitive golf.
“In only his second year playing golf, Mayank has improved greatly and is always working on his game,” Fink said.
While Geneva did not advance any golfers to the district or state tournaments last season, Fink believes the Eagles have the mindset necessary to take another step this fall.
“Our team needs to be themselves, trust their ability on the course, and be mentally tough to overcome the challenges of the season,” he said.
The roster features a blend of experienced veterans and developing contributors, giving Geneva optimism as the season begins.
“I’m excited to see how our team performs this year,” Fink said. “We have a good blend of strong players and players who are learning the game. Their attitude toward the game is impressive.”
