Geneva proposal would ban riders under 16 from driving e-bikes, scooters and ATVs on public roads

GENEVA, N.Y. — The City of Geneva is considering new regulations that would place tighter restrictions on electric scooters, e-bikes, skateboards, dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles in response to growing safety concerns.

A proposal before the Geneva City Council would ban anyone under 16 years old from driving or riding those vehicles on public roads and other city-owned property. Parents could face fines if their children violate the rules, too.

The proposal also bans riding on sidewalks and in city parks, sets speed limits for riders, and gives police the authority to impound vehicles operating illegally.

City officials say the proposed changes aim to improve safety for riders and walkers as the use of electric and motorized recreational vehicles continues to rise

The Geneva City Council is set to review the proposal during its meeting on July 21.
