The NHL dropped the official logo for the 2027 All-Star Weekend on Wednesday. Design elements pull from the New York Islanders’ Fisherman era back in the 1995-96 season. UBS Arena on Long Island will host the event Feb. 5-6.
Navy-and-white lettering makes up the logo. Teal and orange waves sit beneath it, matching the color scheme from those Fisherman jerseys that debuted three decades ago. A lighthouse stands in place of the “I” in “ALL.” It’s a nod to Long Island’s Montauk Point Lighthouse, according to Sports Logos.net.
Five nations will battle in a three-on-three tournament across the weekend — teams representing the United States, Canada, Sweden, Finland, and a fifth squad pulling players from the rest of the world. This setup follows the league’s push back into best-on-best international hockey, which returned after the Olympics this past February and the Four Nations Faceoff last season.
NHL All-Star Skills comes back on Friday, Feb. 5. Young stars take center stage. Ten players aged 25 or under will compete. Events include fastest skater, hardest shot, stick handling, one-timers, passing, and accuracy shooting.
Points get awarded based on where players finish in each event. The top four move into a shootout against one of four goalies participating. The top two from the shootout advance to a final obstacle course, which decides the winner.
Saturday, Feb. 6, brings the game itself with 11-player rosters determined mostly by fan vote. The NHL Players’ Association will pick one forward, defenseman, and goalie for each team after fan voting wraps up. A round robin tournament narrows the field. The top two teams advance to a 10-minute championship game.
This is the second time the Islanders will host the All-Star Game and the first time since 1983. Those Fisherman jerseys split the fan base when they came out but have gained new life through the team’s Reverse Retro uniforms worn during the 2023-24 season.
Days before the logo reveal, the team asked fans to help design their new third jersey. Over 65,000 entries have poured in to date. Fans can sign up for more information on the event at the league’s website.
